Style icons not only set a precedent for beauty, but make their mark by being unapologetically unique. Whether it’s Jackie O’s sunglasses, Madonna’s lingerie or Grace Jones’s androgyny, influential fashion statements are both historical and timeless. Placed upon the pedestal, women crane their necks yearning to see something of themselves reflected in the glamour goddesses past and present.
Reflection was a central theme for Ceremonia founder, Babba Rivera, who grew up as a Latin American immigrant in Sweden. She never saw herself in Scandinavian society, but when she moved to the States to pursue a career in the tech industry, she was finally able to reconnect with her Latinx heritage. However, Rivera still noticed a lack of Latinx representation in a country where Hispanics account for 20% of the population.
Her experiences watching her father, a hairdresser, work coupled with the spirit of sustainability and a commitment to clean led Babba to create Ceremonia. In addition to hair products made from all natural ingredients that come straight from the heart of Latin America, their Frida headband is a not-so-subtle nod to Mexican portrait princess, Frida Kahlo. If anyone felt empowered in a headpiece, it was 100% Ms. Kahlo. This elegant braided crown is made from plush satin making it luxuriously lightweight – it feels like your head is truly in the clouds. It’s bold presence makes a great gift for any declarative diva or minimalist miss heading into statement pieces.
I prefer it as a chew toy but Mom vehemently disagrees. Encircling curls, bedazzling bobs or sitting atop sleek, the Frida headband is the head turning accessory for all.
