Fun Fact: Mom LOVES hotel gift shops. She says they harbor keepsakes unique to their sense of place that can translate into a memorable gift. You’ll notice that Hotel Saint Cecilia and I share a namesake which, of course, is no coincidence.
It is my parent’s most favorite place in the world – a place they’ve brought me to many times. Mom and Dad have spent hours relaxing in these soft, luxurious kimonos. The lightweight batik robes are 100 percent cotton, made custom for this property in a government-sponsored co-op in India where they promote indigenous weaving and dying techniques. The paisley pattern is applied by hand using wooden block printing, then the motif is covered in wax to safeguard the design as it is dipped into indigo dye.
I have spent much time curled up in Mom’s lap as she lounges around this beautiful property, and I am rarely more comfortable. Although this robe is a bit of a splurge, Mom is keeping her fingers crossed (and dropping some not-so-subtle hints to Dad) that it pops up as a birthday/Christmas/Anniversary/Tuesday gift. This is not merely the gift of leisure, but one of unique artistry and craftsmanship. As a great unisex present, the lucky recipient will be grateful for the opportunity to wrap up and lie down.
